Covering letters for mortgage filing

Do I need to send a covering letter?

No, in most circumstances there should only be one attachment - the charging instrument. If there is a particular piece of information you need to include to explain the filing and avoid a rejection and you can't include that in any of the boxes on the form, you can include a covering letter.

If I sent a covering letter with my registration will it be displayed on the public record?

Companies House say:

I have checked with our Mortgage team with regard to the cover letter. Basically, if the cover letter comes in on the same attachment as the deed then this will be produced on the public record as we have no way of separating these.  If the cover letter is attached separately to the deed then this would be displayed on our internal system as two 'links' and only the deed would be displayed om the public record.

Does my covering letter need to be formal on firm letterhead?

The mortgage filing team will accept an attachment cover letter in good faith as part of the submission attachments, there are no specific formal requirements.
