SDLT - paying the tax

When you submit SDLT returns using Legal Forms, your SDLT5 certificate will contain a unique transaction reference number (UTRN).

This reference will always be made up of 9 numbers and 2 characters (for example, 123456789MC) and can be found at the top right of the SDLT5. You MUST use this as a payment reference.

You can use this reference whether you are paying online, by electronic transfer or by cheque.

Can I use a payslip to pay the tax?

No, you should use the UTRN reference on the SDLT5 instead of a payslip reference.

For more information on paying SDLT, visit HMRC’s guidance page https://www.gov.uk/guidance/pay-stamp-duty-land-tax.
